Cinque Terre by Sea

Today we decided to rest our feet a bit, so we bought an all day, all towns (except Corniglio) ferry pass.  Our plan was to travel to the furthest town (Riomaggiore) and take the day to work our way back to Monterosso - and that's just what we did.  We also wanted to find out if you can still walk through the last 2 towns - Manarola & Riomaggiore.  The staff at the information centres at both towns were underwhelming with their information, something we hadn't experienced since our first time in Paris, decades ago!  Between the discussions amongst themselves, they were able to say no walking tracks were accessible between the last 2 towns.  After we left the office with a map, we found a local walk in Manarola to a place called Volastra.  A walk that will take approximately 1.5 hours.  That's on tomorrow's agenda!

The town of  Riomaggiore was lovely, you can see the local people buying their day's food and always having a chat with the shop assistant, which I love to see.  It is expensive to buy clothing here but there are plenty of buyers.  For lunch Paul and I shared a fritto misto in a cardboard cone that was cooked right in front of us - it was delicious.

We did not think that much of Manarola, so decided to hop off at Vernazza, so that we could have another beautiful gelato (Owen, the sacrifices we make for you)!  We were happy to sit back and watch the passing parade.

Home at Monterosso in time for a swim and a pre-dinner drink.
