Travelling to Praiano

What a day!  We woke at 6am to catch the train to Messina.  (Our information was that we could catch a ferry at 10am, alas the ferry came at 11.30am).  We rode the ferry across the straits of Messina to Villa San Giovanni and were lucky to board a train headed for Roma but stopping at Salerno (3.5 hours).  At Salerno we picked up a bus to take us to Amalfi (1.20 hours).  Can I say the bus trip was a white knuckle ride, hair raising and spectacular.  I had to close my eyes sometimes (alright, most of the time)!  Our day was not over yet.  When we arrived in Amalfi we found out that the road was closed between Amalfi and Praiano due to a bushfire.  So we had to take a ferry (actually a small boat) to  Praiano.  We arrived in Praiano glad to have the day's travel behind us, until we saw the climb we had with our luggage to get to the road. Once on the road, we had no idea where our hotel was.  Like everyone else, we jumped (read staggered) onto a local bus, which inadvertently took us past our hotel up towards the town centre.  In the end we were such a sodden, sweaty mess the local policewoman helped us get a bus back down again.  She was so concerned about us that she stayed until the bus arrived, made sure we got on the bus and gave the bus driver our hotel details.
We poured ourselves into our hotel at 7.30pm - slightly delerious.  As Scarlet O'Hara said 'tomorrow is another day'.
Ciao
