The Overnight Ferry from Naples to Palermo

After a long day travelling from Perugia to Naples, we boarded the Ferry to Palermo.  Our cabin was snug but we had everything we needed and the bunks were surprisingly comfortable.  We had live music and drinks in the lounge and a few basic options for dinner (read pizza), which was all good.  The crossing was uneventful and we were up at 5am to be ready for berthing at 6.  A taxi ride and we were in our hotel room by 7.30.

It is a bit unfair to judge a place when you are seeing it in the hot glare of the morning, especially Saturday morning!  The streets were littered with rubbish and the smell of last night's beer.  It is a sprawling, dilapidated, down at heel city with some lovely exceptions. I feel Palermo has the potential to charm and win you over.  Not, however, the botanical gardens!  Dominated by Oleander shrubs, Bougainvillea and Lantana and  not a Latin name to be had!

We are planning a day at the lido (beach) tomorrow.
Ciao
