Our Last Day at Monterosso, Cinque Terre
Having nothing left to do but enjoy the day, we set off to walk from our hotel, in the new town, up over the hills to the 'old town' . This afforded us stunning views of Monterosso and the Mediterranean. We walked carefully as we had only the road to walk on, which was, like many Italian country roads, quite narrow and winding, especially if you add the inevitable Fangios that drive as though they are on the autostrade. We came to a fork in the road not sign posted and had no idea which way to go. Paul saw a couple of (very attractive) road workers and asked for directions, which they kindly gave. We eventually came down via a shady stone path into the old town, where we were delighted to find a market underway in the town piazza. We wandered around the various stalls for an hour or so, enjoying some cherries and nectarines. This beautiful, thriving yet fragile environment and community is so unique and utterly breathtaking. We are so grateful to finally be here to experience all this region has to offer.
A late afternoon swim, our last for a while, drinks and seafood pasta. Bellissimo!
Tomorrow we leave Cinque Terre for Lucca where we plan to celebrate Paul's birthday.
Ciao
